SEAGROVE BEACH, Fla. (December 7, 2018) – Old Florida Fish House held its Fifth Annual Wreaths for Alaqua event, benefitting Alaqua Animal Refuge, on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, and raised $7,425 for the animal sanctuary.

Auctioneer Helen “Redd” Vizard vivaciously auctioned off 20 wreaths created by local artists, businesses, and individuals especially crafted for this event. The wreaths, some of which were packaged with bonus items, such as gift certificates, pieces of art, or vacation stays, went to the highest bidder during the festive holiday fundraiser for Alaqua.

“It warms my heart to see our community come together for an event that helps our organization achieve so much throughout the year,” says Alaqua Animal Refuge Communications Director, Mary Chris Murry. “The wreaths were incredibly creative, beautiful, and packaged with so many great items. After Hurricane Michael, this event will help provide for the countless animals who were left without homes and who have been in our care since the storm hit.”

The $7,425 will go towards Alaqua’s mission to help provide shelter, safety, and second chances to animals who have been neglected, abandoned, or abused. After Hurricane Michael, Alaqua has rescued more than 600 animals that were displaced due to the storm. Due to the drastic increase in animals, the need for further donations and funding at Alaqua is evident. Proceeds from this annual event will go directly to the animals who were rescued after Hurricane Michael and provide the necessary means to support the vast amount of the animals that are currently in Alaqua’s care.
