On Tuesday, September 1, 2020, Destin Water Users, Inc. (DWU) will commence a routine inspection and survey of its water line which crosses the Destin Harbor in the area of Captain Royal Melvin Heritage Park. Divers will be in the water in Destin Harbor setting buoys to map the water lines’ location and diving to perform a physical inspection of the condition of the line.  The work, which will take two to three days to complete, will be performed by Logan Diving and Salvage of Jacksonville, Fla.

The water line is part of a looped system that supplies water to Holiday Isle. The line, which was installed in 1985, crosses under the Destin Harbor from Captain Royal Melvin Heritage Park to the eastern end of Norriego Point.

Destin Water Users’ General Manager, Lockwood Wernet noted that the work is a continuation of their efforts to assess their infrastructure, so they have a clear picture of its condition.

“We recently completed assessment of our gravity sewer system and we are starting to look at our pressure pipe which includes the Harbor Crossing,” Wernet said.
