Brotula’s Seafood House & Steamer and Jackacudas Seafood + Sushi announce Pink Party

Proceeds to benefit local employee battling cancer, Carrie Bair

Destin, Fla. (September 9, 2016) – Brotula’s Seafood House & Steamer and Jackacudas Seafood + Sushi in Destin invite the community, loyal patrons and guests to the Pink Party. 100% of the proceeds from the evening will benefit Carrie Bair, a tenured employee and pivotal part of the of Jackacudas family recently diagnosed with stage 1 Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). The event will take place on Thursday, October 27, 2016, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Jackacudas located in the heart of HarborWalk Village.

The mother of two has a degree in music education, but chose to work in the service industry in order to be at home during the day with her 6-year-old son Bryce. Bryce was born with Coffin Lowry Syndrome, a genetic disorder that causes severe mental problems sometimes associated with irregularities of growth, cardiac abnormalities, kyphoscoliosis, as well as auditory and visual defects. Carrie and her husband Steven, a contractor in the Air Force, tag-team childcare with Steven working during the day and Carrie at night.

Bair discovered a lump in her left breast two years ago prior to having her youngest child Liam. Although her Obstetrician at the time told her the lump was nothing to be concerned about, Bair noticed at the beginning of this year that the lump had grown increasingly larger. Seeking a second opinion, the 34-year-old mother made an appointment with her primary care physician who voiced immediate alarm by the size of the mass. In the following days her physician ordered an ultrasound for Bair, which revealed a tumor. A biopsy was scheduled, but before the results could come back Bair had complications and underwent surgery for a partial mastectomy, which removed the tumor and part of her breast tissue. A fighter in the truest sense of the word, Bair continued to work days after her partial mastectomy and throughout her five weeks of radiation.

“When we saw the toll this disease was taking on Carrie, and the fact that she still came to work every day, we were determined to do something above and beyond lending words of encouragement,” said Christopher Ruyan, co-owner of Brotula’s and Jackacudas. “In July we held a promotion on our Blood Orange Mojito and donated $2 from every drink to Carrie. After seeing what great response we received from that, we knew there was more the community was willing to give.”

The Pink Party is free to attend and open to the public. Guests are invited to stop by and meet Carrie and her family, enjoy complimentary sushi and small plates, and live music by Justin Yawn. The restaurant duo is encouraging the military community, breast cancer survivors and those still in the fight to attend. Donations will be accepted throughout the night. 100% of proceeds will go directly to the Bair family for medical expenses and to help the family of four with daily living expenses.

“Nowadays it is hard to find someone who has not been touched by cancer in some way,” said Tyler Jarvis, co-owner of Brotula’s and Jackacudas. “This event is not only for Carrie and her family, but for all those who have fought the same fight or are even fighting it now.”

For those who cannot attend, donations may also be dropped off at Jackacudas (56 Harbor Blvd, Destin, FL 32541), Brotula’s (210 Harbor Blvd, Destin, FL 32541) or made via GoFundMe at https://www.gofundme.com/2mf3pyqc. Checks can be made payable to Carrie Bair.
