Founded on the golf course by local friends, Ryan Byers and Kevin Tamer, The Truman App is a cutting-edge digital platform that connects both locals and visitors with the best of South Walton, including real-time information on dining, events, transportation, local safety, exclusive deals, and more. The app is now available for download in all app stores.
Originally from Smyrna, Georgia, Byers has extensive business experience after successfully building and selling a global supply chain company. While Tamer, originally from Dallas, has a background in technology and user experience. After a chance encounter on the Camp Creek golf course, Byers and Tamer began meeting and developing Truman while also relocating their families to the South Walton area.
“We saw an opportunity to solve a common problem—accessing reliable local information quickly,” Byers said. “Whether you’re a visitor or a longtime resident, finding the best places to eat, things to do, or how to get around should be simple. The Truman App makes that possible.”
The app also offers a variety of helpful features including:
- Local Dining Guide: Access menus, insider tips, and details on community favorites, including the Caymus Happy Hour at Ambrosia.
- Event Calendar: Stay updated on local happenings, from beach concerts to exclusive community events.
- Transportation Integration: Seamlessly connect with transportation options, including airport shuttles and local services.
- Exclusive Local Deals: Discover promotions from local businesses available only through the app.
- Safety Resources: Contact the local emergency services, discover evacuation routes, find the nearest medical center, and understand beach safety flags and riptide patterns.
- Local Connection: Discover forums and groups for local groups including babysitters, dog walkers, golfers, college football fan bases, and more.
- Real-Time Updates: Receive instant information on weather, beach conditions, and more.
“Our goal was to develop an app that not only provides information but genuinely enhances the South Walton experience,” Tamer said. “Truman is about convenience, connection, and supporting the local economy.”
Future development plans include personalized itineraries, advanced transportation bookings, community discussion forums, and integrated event ticketing, ensuring the app evolves to meet users’ changing needs.
While the app is currently focused on South Walton, Byers and Tamer’s long-term vision for the platform is to expand The Truman App into other boutique cities and markets across the country where the app can further foster local connections and highlight unique regional experiences based upon the local area.
“We want The Truman App to be more than just a resource—it should be a trusted companion for everyone exploring South Walton and, eventually, boutique communities across the country,” Byers said. “Our shared goal is to enrich local experiences while supporting the small businesses that give these places their charm.”
