A small yet mighty team of motivated, fearless women in business are the product of Jessica Proffitt Bracken’s vision coming to life. With a goal of providing the best service in the Public Relations realm to business owners in our community, the Proffitt PR team, is always pedal to the medal! These ladies are cut from the same cloth but possess vastly different qualities that curate for lack of a better word, a “dream team!” With clients at the epicenter of everything they do, this high-heeled army can often be spotted either behind a camera, busy streaming live from an event or mingling with respective community partners. So, you may be wondering what’s behind this four-person #girlsquad? We’re here to tell you just that! We sat down with the entire team to give you a tiny peek into the lives of these ladies. Here’s what they had to say:

What initially inspired you to work in PR?

Jessica: It honestly fell into my lap! I started my career as a retail intern at Destin Commons in 2007 and totally took off in the direction of PR, Marketing, Social Media and more! At the time and to this day, Kay Phelan was the PR company contracted to handle all things PR for the shopping center and helped teach me everything I know from day one. She’s still a mentor to me to this day and I soak her knack of traditional public relations up like a sponge!

Chelsea: I initially heard about Proffitt PR from a longtime friend and colleague, Megan Harrison. After stalking them on social media I was so impressed with the group’s hustle that I submitted my resume. I started in May 2014 and just celebrated three years with the company!

Lexi: After graduating from Ole Miss, I didn’t know what I wanted to do for a career. While vacationing in Destin, my aunt mentioned that she knew an incredibly talented marketing guru named Jessica Bracken, and insisted that I reach out to Jessica to set up a meeting. When I contacted Jessica, I learned that there was a position available. I applied, and next thing you know I was moving to Florida!

Christina: I’ve always had a love for a locally owned business which directed my decision to get a Business Marketing Degree from Ole Miss. Upon graduating, I worked in the non-profit realm for a few years which shaped my knowledge of reputation management, the power of word of mouth and the importance of utilizing social media to convey important messages. I interned with PPR for two months before officially joining the team! I am so excited to continue to hone in on the necessary actions that shape, grow and develop businesses in our close-knit community through public relations.

What does your day-to-day look like?

Jessica: No day is ever the same, which is part of the beauty of what we do! I’m typically darting from one end of 30A to East Destin meeting with clients and community partners while trying to hit every networking luncheon and event along the way! We try to block Mondays out for no meetings so we’re all in the office together and are able to do our weekly client overview as a team and tackle the week ahead.

Chelsea: I’m in the office before 9 a.m. and get the Keurig up and running for my morning cup of coffee. Once I’m at my desk I scan emails in order of importance to put out any PR fires that may have sparked. Once pending emails are handled I look to my to-do list and calendar. I plan my day around that day’s events, upcoming deadlines and meetings.

Lexi: I start my day at 9:00 a.m. with a cup of coffee at my desk. I read through all the local newspapers to get caught up on current events, as well as keep an eye out for clients in the press. The rest of my day revolves around constantly checking social media, responding to emails, and working on plans for upcoming events.

Christina: Every morning, I take Rebel and Tiger (my dogs) on a walk before heading to work! I arrive at the office at 9 a.m., open my laptop and immediately get to work. First, I check my email to make sure I am on track for the day. Next, I open several tabs on my computer and get moving over the various social media sites, which consume most of my day. To close out the work day; I complete blog posts, create graphics for clients and curate my to-do list for the next day (because I can’t operate without a list)!

When you’re not “hustling in heels,” where can we find you?

Jessica: Jet setting! When I’m in town, I’m always ‘on’ which I love so when I get the opportunity to get away, I do it! My husband and I love to travel anywhere from Telluride where we were married to following our beloved favorite band, Phish around the country.

Chelsea: The obvious would be the beach, but I also love to go out with friends for drinks and dinner. Our area has such great places to choose from! Also, I’m not scared to admit I do love snuggling up on the couch in comfy clothes with a glass of wine.

Lexi: If I’m not working, you can find me at the beach, in a bar, or on a road trip with my kitty Mims. No matter what I’m doing, you can always come up to me and ask me about Mims, I’m a proud cat lady and would love to show you pictures!

Christina: When I am not at work, I love to be outside! My husband and I can be found walking our dogs, riding our cruiser bikes or at the beach. When we aren’t enjoying the fresh air, we like to go out to dinner or watch a movie at home.

What’s a valuable lesson that you’ve learned that you’d like to share?

Jessica: Get a mentor! There is nothing more valuable!

Chelsea: One of the first things Jessica taught me was to respond to emails as soon as possible, and definitely within 24 hours! People like to do know you’re working on a solution or answer for them!

Lexi: Like Chelsea said, always keep up with emails. There’s no better feeling than going to bed and being caught up!

Christina: Always ask questions and be open to learn something new daily!

What drives you?

Jessica: The success of our clients and a happy, motivated team!

Chelsea: Growth. “We cannot become what we need to be by remaining what we are.” – Max De Pree

Lexi: Competitive Helpfulness. I want to be as helpful as possible at all times, for anyone who needs anything done!

Christina: Teamwork! In my short time at PPR, I am grateful for the guidance I’ve received from all of these ladies! I want to be the best teammate I can be to them day in and day out.

Constantly learning, tailoring their game and working solely for the best interest of their clients is what gives the Proffitt PR team that competitive edge. At the end of the day, if their clients are happy, they’re happy. This is accomplished through nothing but unwavering dedication to one another… and a team like that is capable of anything.
