FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Walton County, Fla. (November 3, 2016) – The Walton Area Chamber of Commerce announces November 7 and November 10, 2016, Lunch and Learn events on the upcoming Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) changes prior to the changes going into effect. To accommodate all wishing to attend, events are scheduled in both North and South Walton county. The Lunch and Learn are sponsored by Hill Coleman, CPA., one of the chamber’s newest business members.

In 2014, President Obama signed a Presidential Memorandum directing the Department to update the regulations defining which white collar workers are protected by the FLSA’s minimum wage and overtime standards. The effective date of the final rule is December 1, 2016. The initial increases to the standard salary level (from $455 to $913 per week) and HCE total annual compensation requirement (from $100,000 to $134,004 per year) will be effective on that date. Future automatic updates to those thresholds will occur every three years, beginning on January 1, 2020.

The two Lunch and Learn events, taking place November 7 and November 10, will be facilitated by Ginger Barry Boyd, partner with Broad & Cassel and legal counsel for the Walton Area Chamber of Commerce.

The first Lunch and Learn is scheduled for Monday, November 7, 2016, at Boys and Girls Club; 427 Greenway Trail, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459, at 11:30 a.m.

The second Lunch and Learn is scheduled for Thursday, November 10, 2016, at the Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood; 95 Circle Drive, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435, at 11:30 a.m. Cost to attend is $15.
